Linux Containers (LXC) are an OS level virtualization method for running isolated both open source and closed source Linux containers on a single LXC host. While it does not provide a virtual machine, it allows for a virtual environment that has its own CPU, memory (RAM), block I/O, network, and a resource control mechnanism. This allows for more control and isolation.
Linux Containers (LXC) is a user space interface for Linux kernal containment. Through both simple and extremely powerful API tools, it lets Linux create and manage a system of application containers. Linux Containers (LXC) allow for both privileged and unprivileged containers.
Linux Containers are open source and LXC is free software, so most of the code is released under the terms of the GNU LGPLv2.1+ license
